Property Description

Set on an organic olive farm, this property has stunning views over mountains, forests, valleys and more mountains – the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama.

Situated opposite a protected Natural Park, it shares its surroundings with an abundance of wildlife, the only other locals being deer, wild boar and over 50 different species of birds, including Bonelli eagles, hoopoes, bee-eaters, redstarts, wagtails and stone chats.

The house itself, completed in 2016, was designed to be extremely eco-friendly, using highly thermally-efficient YTONG blocks, insulation in abundance, lots of laminated beams, with double-glazed Argon-filled windows. It is essentially a rectangle arranged around a central cobbled courtyard – a contemporary interpretation of a bygone era – with one room leading into another. The open-plan living area faces south-west and has three large Moorish arch windows which provide an amazing tryptich frame of the exceptionally verdant scenery.

In the main house, there are two bedrooms, a bathroom, utility room, large living/dining room with a Jøtul wood-burning stove, fully equipped kitchen – fridge/freezer/dishwasher/oven/microwave/gas and induction hobs – and further attic living space/storage. The internal courtyard provides a perfect setting for scented shrubs and herbs and also serves as a summer-kitchen with a built-in BBQ.

There is a separate ‘cottage’ or studio (also built with Ytong blocks), which is open-plan with a bedroom, living area, wood stove, kitchen with washing machine and microwave/combination oven and shower.

Outside, there are 18 Photo voltaic solar panels for electricity and 2 wet-panels for water-heating, a deep well – providing excellent drinking water – and a small pool; technically an ‘aljibe’ or water depository, plus several terraces and flower beds.

The house and outbuildings extend to more than 250m2 and due to the nature of the eco-friendly build, the annual running costs average only 250€ per annum, including land tax.

The 11-acre plot of land (45,000 m2) supports several hundred olive trees, a few almond trees and provides plenty of wood for the wood stoves in the house and cottage.
