Finca 1 aka ”La Granja” consists of:
This is the biggest finca out of the 3, in total more than 17ha, of which 13ha is “monte”, wild,
dry mountain and about 4ha is irrigable olive terraces.
On the terraces near the houses there are many fruit trees interspersed with the olive trees, grape vines, and a very productive politunnel (greenhouse) near the natural swimming pool. The natural swimming pool is circular, approx. 15m diameter and is home to a host of wildlife (frogs, dragonflies, turtles etc). The water is filtered naturally by plants.
The olive terraces nearest to Bayacas are watered with acequia water from the Bayacas acequia (irrigation canal) and water can be stored in the alberca (concrete pool) next to Casa Parra.
The terraces nearest to Carataunas are watered with an acequia which comes from the stream (Rio Seco), which flows all year round.
There are 2 legalized cottages (Casa Parra which has been used as a rental house for the last 15 years and provides a regular income) and the current owner’s house. All houses except La Casita have mains water, woodburning stoves, solar electric systems (12v and 220v) and also all except La Casita have very efficient solar hot water systems. They all have compost toilets but flush toilets could be installed in the bathrooms of Casa Parra and he owner’s house, for this a septic tank or cess pit would need to be installed on one of the terraces below the houses.
El Taller is a small wood and brick cabin near the owner’s house with mains water, kitchenette, shower, woodburning stove and solar electric system, ideal for guests.
La Casita, down by the stream is a tiny stone cabin with outside kitchen, compost
toilet, woodburning stove and solar electric system, it is perfect for volunteer
accommodation or silent retreats.
**Accessibility via new track! Brand new road access / driveway for small vehicles. **
Over the last 30 years, this finca has been a safe haven for thousands of volunteers, who’ve helped me create this unique eco-project. The ideal off-grid place to organise workshops, yoga & silent retreats. Part of our income has been coming from harvesting olives from the hundreds of olive trees on this land. Membership of organic olive oil co-op “La flor de la Alpujarra” included.
+/-30 min stunning walk over the mountains to Orgiva (international & lively capital of the Alpujarra) or 10min drive. 20-30min to tourist hotspots “Pueblos Blancos” Pampaneira & Capileira. 45min to the coast.
