Description

Finca La Umbria – Off-Grid Smallholding – Ideal For Permaculture Project / Organic Gardening / Leisure Retreat Etc.

If interested: PLEASE READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING CONTACT

Due to commitments elsewhere, we’re looking to sell Finca La Umbría – our secluded smallholding of almost 4 Acres / 15,000 M2 of rustic land, just one hour from Málaga airport, in the Axarquia region of Southern Spain.

This land has so much potential for the right person / family or a few friends or families buying it together, for an off-grid smallholding / permaculture project / holiday / leisure / weekend retreat etc. (Or permanent residence if you’re a bit of a pirate!).

Due to Covid and two buyers pulling out, we haven’t been able to do any maintenance during the last three years. As a result, the land has become overgrown, and some trees need pruning etc and several of them have died due to lack of irrigation.

To restore it properly, the land is a mid-term and on-going project, for someone with a love of the outdoors, adventure and a lot of energy and commitment.

To get the best out of this land you will need to be healthy, fit, and agile.

The most important feature is that the land has a reliable spring / water source, which provides ample water all year round and has never been known to dry up. It produces well over 1000 litres a day.

The land is very secluded and during the last eighteen years, that we’ve owned it, we’ve lived there regularly, with family and friends, in campers, caravans, tents and a yurt.

About 10 years ago we built a one room off-grid wooden cabin (6m x 4.5m) and we’ve stayed there regularly ever since.

The cabin has 2 x 200-watt solar panels for power, a woodburning cooker, which provides ample heat in the autumn and winter months. There is a simple exterior detached bathroom, which is fed from water pumped up from the spring, which comprises a sink, shower, and a compost toilet.

There is also a concrete block built, outside kitchen area, with a sink and running water, which needs finishing off.

There is a great phone / 4G signal over the entire plot, and you could work remotely, on-line from here with no problems, as we often do.

Although mostly sloped and terraced along the natural curve of the mountain– the land offers two large flat areas.

The one with the cabin on, is surrounded by olive trees, and is very private and the other, larger section of land (approximately 180 m2), has amazing, panoramic mountain views and could house a yurt or tepee etc.

Below the cabin is the water source and a pair of old stone-built storage tanks and an extensive irrigation piping system. On either side of the spring there are several old stone-walled terraces where orange, lemon, tangerine and níspero trees flourish – alongside a couple of big old avocado trees. There are numerous areas, either side of the spring, where you can grow vegetables and plant more trees.

On the remainder of the land, which is steep in places; there are many olive and almond trees as well as a couple of carob trees.

Access is via a 1.5 kilometre long, winding, dirt track, some of which, at the beginning, is concreted and most of it is regularly well maintained.

Although steep in places, a regular car or small van can usually get in and out ok but a 4×4 vehicle would be preferable for all year-round access.

Please note: If you’re a nervous driver or passenger (or suffer from vertigo) this land and access track would not be for you.

Here’s a link to a video of the track down to the property that I made a couple of years ago –

Although there are friendly small communities close by, there are no near neighbours and the land is pretty much surrounded by avocado plantations, lemon orchards and olive and almond trees.

The nearest town, Comares, is about 15 minutes away and offers 4 bars, 2 hotels, a supermarket, and a tobacconist. Whilst the coast and the much bigger market town of Velez Malaga is 40 minutes away.

Legal matters are completely covered as I have recently had the land professionally surveyed and all the boundaries have been marked out and updated at the land registry. I have the registered deeds for the land and all the taxes have been paid.
